Through my teen years, I used to wash and condition my hair every single day. I swore that if I didn’t I’d be a big ol’, greasy mess. There was probably something to that during that highly hormonal time of life, but I know now that the more you wash your hair, the greasier it will be. Your scalp will produce even more oil since you’re constantly stripping out the natural balance it needs. And, it’ll start to take a toll on the health of your strands.
For the past two or three years, I’ve been able to slowly space out washing my hair every three to four days. And, I’m still trying to prolong it further whenever I can. I’ve noticed a huge improvement in the texture of my hair and definitely less split ends. But, let’s be honest. The biggest bonus is an extra half hour of sleep on the days I don’t need to shampoo and condition. YES! Lazy girl for the win.
I’ve been curious about ways to increase the space between washes even more; for both hair health and extra sleep. If you search the blogosphere and do a bit of Googling, you come across all kinds of methods. No Poo, Baking Soda + Apple Cider Vinegar rinsing, Cowashing, and just plain not washing your hair.
Here comes some more honesty, I really can’t be fussed to go to all the trouble and dedication needed for some of these methods. Plus, I really can’t stand the thought of living with greasy hair while it goes through a “detox” period. Who doesn’t love the feeling of a clean scalp?
So, when I got my January Beautybox, I was naturally sceptical, but also curious about one of the products in it. In the box, I got a deluxe sample size of the Unwash Bio-Cleansing Conditioner, a sulfate and paraben free co-washing formula that claims to replace your shampoo. Co-washing or conditioner washing is a method of using a conditioner-like cleanser to wash out dirt, excess oils, and build-up without harsh ingredients that wash away all of the hairs’ natural oils.
The conditioner smells amazing; like a sweet, tart cherry. And, the texture is really nice. Not too thick and not too watery; sort of like a mix between a shampoo and a conditioner. It doesn’t foam up when you work it in, which I don’t mind. I typically need to use a quarter size amount, rinse, and repeat to get the best effect. But, that’s something I already have to do with regular shampoo. So, nothing too different there.
Have you ever had to wash your hair with only shampoo? Then, you’re left with a dry, tangled, horrible mess. I was so afraid that would happen with this conditioner. Surprisingly, the formula really lives up to it’s claims! It washes out dirt, sweat, and any extra oil, but it leaves you with soft and manageable clean hair.
I haven’t left regular shampoo and conditioner behind completely yet. My new haircare routine goes something like this: wash my hair with regular shampoo and conditioner, wait three days, wash my hair with Unwash, wait three days, use Unwash again, wait three days, and then back to regular shampoo and conditioner. I haven’t been doing this long enough to claim it’s made a huge difference, but I love the time saved and I like feeling like I’m giving my hair a bit of a break.

I LOVE this stuff. No it doesn’t suds up like other products but my hair stays soft yet stays in place. Most shampoos either make your hair a staic flyaway mess or weigh it down. Not this product. It truly a shampoo and conditioner in one. I know I sound like a commercial but I’ve paid over 100$ for a keratin treatment to have my hair behave like this. Love this stuff! I use the UN cleanse shampoo once a week but this every

I used to be a religious daily shampooer but I have always had hair that got really matted and tangled. In the process of detangling, I lost a lot of hair and it was a battle every day. Little did I know, you aren’t supposed to wash your hair every day and I know it sounds gross. But what happens is, you strip off all of the good oils made by your scalp and then you start to thin out. Don’t expect this product to feel like that streaky clean that you get with bubbly shampoo. This feels like hand lotion for your hair but it is slimy enough that you feel that you get a mild wash. I started using this in place of shampoo every day and shampooed once a week and I loss less hair. I have had a battle with my fine and limp and falling hair for a life time and this helped a lot for me. Buy it.

In love! I have fine hair and was concerned about this product weighing my hair down or making it feel greasy. Actually it’s just the opposite. It makes me hair silky soft and clean feeling. The scent is awesome!

I loved Unwash from my first use. Everything about my hair has improved. It is soft, feels clean, is easier to style, is less reactive to weather, and there is less hair in my brush. I have medium long, fine, color treated hair. Prior to using Unwash I shampooed my hair 2-3 times per week. On days that I didn’t shampoo and condition, I only used conditioner. Now I use Unwash 2-3 times per week and condition on the other days. My routine of less frequent shampooing, using a high quality shampoo may have made my transition easier than some of the other reviewers. As I said above, I didn’t have an adjustment period, I was happy from the first use!

I’ve been using this stuff for a couple months now and I really love it! I have naturally curly, kinky, frizzy hair and using this stuff has totally changed it! My hair looks so much nicer and more hydrated all the time. The only thing is I have to wash a little more often than I was before, it gets greasy quicker. (That means going from once a week to maybe 2-3 times per week lol). Worth it though! I also have psoriasis on my scalp and as long as I wash with this a couple times a week and make sure to massage the scalp during those times it doesn’t get irritated!
